Shooting - the killing game

The shooting of game birds for sport involves the killing of millions birds and the persecution of countless other animals every year.

Over 35 million pheasants and 6.5 million partridges are produced to be used as live targets in the UK each year. These birds are often reared in appalling, battery conditions; and the misery doesn't end there - all kinds of wildlife suffer at the hands of the shoot, in the name of predator control.

The League works to end the terrible suffering of game birds, for the sake of this so-called 'sport'.

What are we doing?

We campaign for regulation of the shooting industry, and an end to the practice of battery-breeding of game to be killed for 'sport'.
We go undercover and investigate the cruelty behind the 'free range' façade of the shooting industry, and raise public awareness of the true nature of this bloodsport.
The League's undercover investigations have also unearthed the use of barbaric, illegal traps on high-profile shooting estates.
We discourage businesses from holding corporate entertainment events on shooting estates.
We offer advice to members of the public who are 'troubled by the shoot'.
We are highlighting concerns about teaching children to kill

Report incidents of shooting on public access land to the League on 01483 524 250, especially if landowners are preventing access whilst shooting is in progress.
Has a shoot moved into your area? Keep an eye on the effect on local wildlife and report any changes you notice to the League.
