Announcements
Each year, millions of live farm animals around the world are transported thousands of miles for slaughter, or to places where they will be fattened for slaughter.
This trade is a worldwide phenomenon. In North and South America, Australia and Europe, animals often have to endure journeys across vast distances before long voyages at sea to reach their final destination.

Calf transport across Europe
Compassion in World Farming is focusing its campaign on the live transport of calves to veal farms across Europe.
European lobbying
We work hard to lobby decision makers in the EU to make and enforce animal welfare legislation.
Working with international bodies
We seek to put animal welfare on the list of priorities of international bodies, such as the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE) and the World Trade Organisation.
Take action
You can make a difference
There are several things you can take individually or as a group to help end the long distance transport of animals.
Top four actions:
- Write a letter to the President of the European Commission in support of a limit to journey times for animals
- Take action now by signing the 8 hours petition
- Sign up to support the Handle with Care campaign
- Compassion in World Farming supports the work of World Horse Welfare to end the long distance transportation of horses to slaughter in Europe. You can help by contacting your MEP about Written Declaration 54/2009 or by visiting www.worldhorsewelfare.org/takeaction for other actions.
What else can be done?
- Only buy organic milk and dairy products and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Download our Good Food Shopping Guide for more information.
- Support KALE and their monthly transport demos at Dover
- Donate to Compassion in World Farming and help support our campaigns
